For Aviation Personnel

The purpose of this course is to offer a combined version of the AVI0039 Aircraft underwater escape and the and AVIF0038 Utilise Emergency Breathing Systems for those working in industries where they require both certifications.

With this qualification trainees will acquire the skills and knowledge required to undertake aircraft underwater escape and survival and utilise an emergency breathing system (EBS).

These units address aviation non-technical skill requirements (mental, social and personal, management abilities) for flight crews and passengers and contributes to safe and effective performance in complex aviation operational environments.
Operations are conducted as part of commercial and military aircraft activities across a variety of operational contexts within the Australian aviation industry.

Structure and Assessment
This course is delivered through classroom presentations, group discussion and practical demonstrations and exercises. Trainees will demonstrate their competence through written and practical assessment.

Learning Outcomes
The expected learning outcomes for this course are: AVIF0039 – Utilise emergency breathing system

  • Prepare an EBS for use
  • Operate an EBS
  • Complete EBS post-operational procedures

AVIF0038 Undertake aircraft underwater escape and survival includes:

  • Prepare an aircraft for ditching
  • Undertake evacuation from an aircraft
  • Conduct rescue recovery process
  • Control Survival Hazards

Authority
The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) is the national regulator for Nationally recognised training.

Additional Requirements
A health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements and to discuss options for reasonable adjustments.

A current offshore or industry equivalent medical is required for this course. Please see the Medical Form document on ergt.edu.au for a list of accepted medical clearances.
Government issued photo identification is required for course registration.

Please bring swimwear and towel for in water activities.

Additional Information
There is an increased risk of decompression sickness if you fly at altitude after breathing compressed air underwater. As per the Divers Alert Network (DAN) published Revised Flying After Diving Guidelines for Recreational Diving – May 2002, a minimum pre-flight surface interval of 12 hours is recommended. Trainees should take this into consideration when arranging for travel after course completion and refer to their company Health and Safety department for further advice.
