Using Gas Testing Equipment in The Workplace
This refresher course helps with the skills and knowledge required to use electronic equipment to test a working atmosphere, to find out if it is safe for proposed work to proceed. It applies to situations where a worker may be required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or workspace. The gas tester will be required to interpret and take actions based on the readings.

Learning Outcomes
The expected learning outcomes for this Certificate of Currency are the ability to:
- Prepare for gas testing
- Test specific area or workplace
- Refurbish equipment
Structure & Assessment
The course will consist of an initial question and answer session to check in on the trainee’s knowledge of worksite procedures for gas testing, followed by practical exercises within a
simulated workplace environment. These practical exercises include; preparing gas-testing equipment, carrying out 2 gas testing tasks, recording readings on workplace documentation and reporting the required actions. The gas testing equipment will then be refurbished.
Certification
On successful completion trainees will be issued with a:
- Certificate of Currency in Gas Test Atmospheres
Revalidation
In alignment with industry expectations and to ensure ongoing competence and capability, ERGT recommends skills maintenance be conducted every two (2) years.
