We were fortunate to have Simon Comerford from the Blue Tree Project and Maurice Sauzier from the Happiness Co Foundation join us, along with around 45 participants from Rio Tinto - including their three competing MERC teams and trainees - plus a strong turnout from our own ERGT crew.
The morning kicked off with bacon & egg wraps and coffees galore, and a moment to pause for a few heartfelt words:
Steve Dwyer (ERGT Australia) thanked both charities for the vital support they provide to remote workers across our industry and wished the Rio Tinto MERC teams luck in the upcoming event.
Happiness Co reminded us of the impact we can all have when we show up as one group, especially during busy periods when wellbeing can slip down the list.
Simon Comerford (Blue Tree Project) shared a short but powerful story about his best mate, Jayden White - the inspiration behind the Blue Tree Project - and encouraged everyone to check in on themselves particularly around compassion fatigue.
Mick Hale (Rio Tinto) expressed appreciation for our charity partners and the awareness raised around mental health across the resources industry.
With the day's café takings still being tallied, there will be more fundraising to come over the three MERC event days. So if you’re heading down, bring your spare change and help us keep the momentum going.
A massive thank you to everyone who showed up, cooked, served, spoke, donated, and shared a moment with the ERGT team.
