Held at the Hannans North Tourist Mine, SMERC brings together emergency response teams from across the mining industry to test their skills in realistic, high-pressure scenarios designed to reflect the challenges faced on site.
Over the course of the weekend, ERGT team members Scott Mason and Steve Dwyer represented ERGT at the sponsor expo and volunteered as casualties during the emergency response scenarios. Steve supported the First Aid Mass Casualty scenario, while Scott participated in the Vertical Rescue scenario, helping create authentic training environments for competing teams.
The competition showcased the professionalism, teamwork and capability of emergency response personnel across the industry, with strong performances from a number of teams. Northern Star KCGM took out the Overall Competition title, as well as Best Team Overall First Aid, with the award presented by Steve Dwyer at the official presentation evening held at the Kalgoorlie Racing Club.
ERGT is proud to continue supporting initiatives like SMERC that strengthen emergency response capability across the mining and resources sector. Events like these provide valuable opportunities for teams to challenge themselves, build confidence under pressure and share knowledge and experience with industry peers. They also reinforce the importance of practical, realistic training in preparing responders for the environments they work in every day.
