Course Overview

Start your journey in the wind industry with Global Wind Organisation Basic Safety Training Onshore. This course builds essential safety and emergency response skills for onshore wind work environments, including working at heights, manual handling, fire awareness and first aid.

GWO Basic Safety for Training Onshore is a globally recognised training program designed to prepare workers for safe and effective roles in the wind industry. Delivered at ERGT’s Australia this course covers the GWO modules for First Aid, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, and Working at Heights over 4-days.

This course is essential for anyone starting or continuing work in onshore wind environments. It meets the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Safety Training requirements and supports a safe and capable workforce.
There are no formal prerequisites; however, learners must be physically fit and able to participate in practical scenarios.

On successful demonstration of all of all the learning objectives ERGT will forward your training records to WINDA. Learners will be able to access their individual training records via their WINDA login:

GWO - Basic Safety Training:
Working at Heights Module
Manual Handling Module
Fire Awareness Module
First Aid Module
Leaners will be able to verify their training records through their WINDA login
Working at Heights (GWO_BST_WAH):
Use of PPE and fall arrest systems
Safe ascent, descent, and rescue procedures
Risk assessment and emergency response planning
Manual Handling (GWO_BST_MH):
Body mechanics and injury prevention
Task planning and load assessment
Safe lifting, lowering, pushing, and pulling
Fire Awareness (GWO_BST_FAW):
Fire theory, prevention, and detection
Firefighting equipment and extinguishing techniques
Smoke and heat exposure risks
First Aid (GWO_BST_FA):
Primary assessment and life-saving interventions
Use of first aid equipment
CPR, bleeding control, and scenario-based response

Training is delivered through a combination of:

Face-to-face classroom sessions led by experienced facilitators

Practical, scenario-based exercises using industry-grade equipment

Group discussions, demonstrations, and individual assessments

Simulated emergencies in a controlled training environment
GWO Basic Safety Training Onshore is designed for learners working in, or preparing to enter, the onshore wind industry. This includes technicians, construction workers, and maintenance personnel who need to meet Global Wind Organisation (GWO) requirements for safety training.

The course is suitable for both new and experienced learners. There are no formal prerequisites; however, learners must be physically capable of participating in training that involves manual tasks, simulated heights, and emergency response.

This course is delivered at ERGT training centers and is regulated by GWO, and results in certification in the four core modules.

Learners are required to meet basic Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills to sucussefull completed training and assessment. Learners must be able to access and navigate a digital device to log in and access the course materials. Support for leaners is available on request. More information is available on our website.

Structure & Assessment

In alignment with industry expectations and to ensure ongoing competency and currency GWO recommends course refreshers be conducted every two years.

Prerequisites

A WINDA ID will be required for this course- all certification will be uploaded to WINDA and no hard copy of a certificate will be printed at the end of training day(s).

Protective Clothing & Footwear – For courses with practical components, overalls/long pants and safety boots must be worn. If you don’t have your own, ERGT can provide these for you on the day.
Important information about your course:
Due to equipment safety requirements and industry best practices, there is a participant weight limit of 120kg for this course. You will be weighed during the course to ensure you meet the equipment safety limits.
Health & Fitness:
There is no medical required for this course however the learners are required to read and sign a health questionnaire and statement of participation prior to commencing training declaring their fitness and ability to perform certain physically demanding elements. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements.

Free Parking at all ERGT facilities
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Any additional PPE required for your course will be supplied by ERGT on the day.
Lunch for Full-Day Courses – Lunch is provided. Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you have any allergies or specific dietary requirements.
