The Respond to Local Emergencies and Incidents course uses a blend of:

• Classroom-based learning to cover theory, procedures, and hazard awareness.

• Practical hands-on simulations in realistic workplace environments.

• Group activities and scenario-based exercises to build teamwork and decision-making skills.

 

This 3-day Respond to Local Emergencies and Incidents course is designed for workers in high-risk industries such as oil and gas, mining, maritime, and other operational sectors who may be required to take immediate action during workplace emergencies. This includes employees in operational roles, emergency response teams, fire teams, and safety support staff responsible for taking immediate and coordinated action during incidents.
While there are no formal prerequisites, it is highly recommended that learners have foundational skills in:

• RIIERR201E Conduct Fire Team Operations or PMAWHS213 Undertake Fire Control and Emergency Rescue (or equivalent)
• PUAFIR207 Operate Breathing Apparatus Open Circuit or MSMWHS216 Operate Breathing Apparatus (or equivalent)

This course provides learners with practical skills to safely respond to local emergencies and incidents, assess hazards, implement response procedures, and support workplace safety systems. Learners must be physically capable of performing emergency response activities, including movement in challenging environments.

Learners must have basic Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills to understand safety procedures and complete assessments. Learners must be able to access and navigate a digital device to log in and access the course materials.
