Course Overview

The Vertical Rescue course at ERGT Australia gives learners the skills and confidence to take part in rescue operations using ropes and specialised equipment.

The Vertical Rescue course at ERGT Australia delivers the outcomes PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation and PUASAR032 Undertake vertical rescue. This 4-day training equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills to carry out rescues in vertical environments using ropes, knots, and specialised rescue systems.

This course is structured so that learners must successfully complete PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation (assessed on Day 1) before progressing to PUASAR032 Undertake vertical rescue. The training also supports desired skills including conducting risk assessments, applying casualty handling techniques, identifying hazards and implementing control measures, and contributing to post-rescue debriefs. Learners must be physically fit to climb, lift, and work at heights while using personal protective and rescue equipment

Upon successful completion learners will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in:
PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation
PUASAR032 Undertake vertical rescue
Introduction to vertical rescue principles and workplace safety.
Preparing for and participating in rescue operations.
Rope systems, knots, and harness use.
Building and securing anchor systems.
Vertical descent and ascent techniques.
Patient packaging and casualty handling in vertical environments.
Team-based simulated rescue scenarios.
Equipment inspection, maintenance, and care.

The Vertical Rescue course at ERGT Australia uses a combination of theory and practical training to build real-world rescue capability. Learning methods include:

Classroom-based sessions covering rescue theory, safety, and equipment use.

Facilitator-led demonstrations of rope techniques and anchor systems.

Hands-on training in controlled vertical rescue environments.

Team-based simulated rescue operations with guided reflection.
The Vertical Rescue (VERT) course at ERGT Australia is designed for learners who work as part of an Emergency Response Team (ERT) or may be required to respond to incidents in an industrial workplace and be required to conduct or assist in rope-based rescues.

It recommended that learners have prior knowledge and experience in, conducting risk assessments, applying casualty handling techniques, identifying hazards and implementing control measures, and contributing to post-rescue debriefs are needed to attend this course. Learners must be physically fit to climb, lift, and work at heights while using personal protective and rescue equipment to ensure safe participation in rope and rescue simulations.

Learners must already hold prior to commencing this course.

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Learners must have basic Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills to understand safety procedures and complete assessment. Learners must be able to access and navigate a digital device to log in and access the course materials. Support for leaners is available on request. More information is available on our website.

Prerequisites

Provide First Aid - Blended Delivery

Unique Student Identifier (USI):
You are enrolling in a Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) course.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be provided and verified for NRT. Please refer to http://www.usi.gov.au to create a USI. It is strongly recommended that you grant ERGT permission to access your USI transcript to assist with verification.
ERGT is prohibited by law to issue a Statement of Attainment without a verified USI.
A USI must be provided and verified within 30 days of course completion otherwise an alternative non NRT certificate will be issued.
Training Pre-requisites:
Evidence of the following pre-requisite/s must be provided to ERGT for verification prior to course commencement:
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
Important Information about day-1 of your training:
On day 1 of your Vertical Resue training, ERGT will deliver training in:
PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation .
To successfully gain PUASAR032 Undertake vertical rescue, you must have successfully completed PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation on day 1.
Health & Fitness:
A medical certificate is not required for this course; however, a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Any additional PPE required for your course will be supplied by ERGT on the day.
