Course Overview

Learn how to safely respond to situations in a workplace environment where rescue from a confined space situation is required.

The 2-day Undertake Confined Space Rescue (UCSR) course at ERGT Australia is designed for learners who may be required to work as a member of an Emergency Response Team and are required to perform rescues from confined spaces. Confined spaces present significant risks, and successful rescues demand specialist knowledge, teamwork, and the ability to act quickly and safely under pressure. There are no formal entry requirements; however, it is recommended that learners have prior knowledge of Enter confined space and Operate breathing apparatus training.

Upon successful completion learners will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in:
PUASAR025 Undertake confined space rescue
Understanding confined space hazards and rescue principles
Preparing for confined space rescue operations
Performing rescue drills and live scenarios
Using breathing apparatus and rescue equipment
Applying workplace procedures and emergency protocols
Post-rescue procedures including debriefing and reporting

This course is delivered through a blend of:

Facilitator-led classroom sessions to cover confined space rescue theory, safety procedures, and emergency response planning.

Hands-on practical training in controlled confined space environments to practice rescue techniques and the use of breathing apparatus.

Scenario-based exercises simulating real emergency situations and team coordination under pressure.

Performance-based assessments to confirm competence in safely executing confined space rescues.
The ERGT Australia 2-day Undertake Confined Space Rescue course is designed for emergency response team members in the Oil and Gas, Resources, and Maritime Industries who may be required to carry out rescues in confined spaces.

While there are no prerequisites, it is recommended that learners have hold prior to attending this course:
MSMPER205 Enter confined space and MSMWHS216 Operate breathing apparatus or their equivalents.

Learners should be able to meet physical requirements, including working in full PPE, confined spaces, and potentially using breathing apparatus.

Learners must have basic Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills to understand safety procedures and complete assessments. Learners must be able to access and navigate a digital device to log in and access the course materials. Support for leaners is available on request. More information is available on our website.

Prerequisites

Government issued photo identification
Protective Clothing & Footwear – For courses with practical components, overalls/long pants and safety boots must be worn. If you don’t have your own, ERGT can provide these for you on the day.
Unique Student Identifier (USI):
You are enrolling in a Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) course.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be provided and verified for NRT. Please refer to http://www.usi.gov.au to create a USI. It is strongly recommended that you grant ERGT permission to access your USI transcript to assist with verification.
ERGT is prohibited by law to issue a Statement of Attainment without a verified USI.
A USI must be provided and verified within 30 days of course completion otherwise an alternative non NRT certificate will be issued.

Training Pre-requisites:
There are no pre-requisites from the training standard for this course.

Health & Fitness:
A medical certificate is not required for this course; however, a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements.

Respiratory Standards:
Under respiratory standard AS/NZS 1715 Appendix B: Facial Seal of Respirators must be adhered to. You must be clean shaven to achieve an effective seal. If you’re unsure about this requirement, contact ERGT before your course.

What to expect

Free Parking at all ERGT facilities
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Any additional PPE required for your course will be supplied by ERGT on the day.
All necessary equipment and accessories to practice and complete assessment.
Lunch for Full-Day Courses – Lunch is provided. Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you have any allergies or specific dietary requirements.
