Learn how to safely and effectively board a vessel at sea

 

This course is designed for maritime personnel such as authorised officers, marine surveyors, inspectors, engineers, and seafarers who are required to safely board vessels at sea, typically
at approved anchorages or offshore installations.

The purpose of this training is to ensure that individuals responsible for boarding operations are equipped with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to plan and execute a
boarding safely and efficiently, supporting safety management and regulatory frameworks within the Australian maritime sector.

Structure and Assessment
This course is delivered through classroom presentations, group discussion and practical demonstrations and exercises. Trainees will demonstrate their competence through a practical assessment.

Learning Outcomes
The Elements below outline the key competency outcomes expected by the industry.

  • Plan a boarding operation by conducting pre-operational checks, identifying hazards, assessing risks, and preparing necessary equipment in line with organisational procedures.
  • Carry out a boarding operation by safely transferring to the vessel, maintaining situational awareness, and applying correct boarding techniques.
  • Complete post-boarding activities, including securing the boarding site, conducting debriefs, and completing necessary reporting and documentation as per operational requirements.

Enrolment Requirements
In order for ERGT to deliver the course content within the timeframe set it is desirable that course participants attend with the following skills and knowledge:

  • Completed company induction training
  • Participated in workplace evacuation drills and exercises
  • Completed workplace training in hazard and risk identification

Medical
A health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements and to discuss options for reasonable adjustments.

Additional Requirements
Please bring towel and bathers for in-water activities.
