Course Overview

This four day STCW course provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to perform survival craft operarions as required during emergency response situations.

ERGT's STCW Proficiency in Survival other than Fast Rescue Boats course gives learners the training you need to safely manage lifeboats and rescue boats in real-world marine emergencies. Meeting STCW standards STCW Reg VI/2 and Code Section A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-1 and approved by AMSA, this course lets learners step up and take charge of survival craft during a vessel abandonment or offshore incident

Learners will learn how to launch and operate lifeboats, manage survivors, use communication equipment and pyrotechnics, and provide first aid all in a simulated marine environment. This course is perfect if you're headed to work on offshore platforms, ships, or remote marine operations.

On successful completion of the course, you will be issued with a certificate in accordance with AMSA requirements, for the following elements:
Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats - STCW Reg VI/2 and Code Section A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-1
STCW standards overview for survival craft and rescue boats
Launch/recovery procedures for lifeboats and rescue boats
Engine handling, steering techniques, and survivor management
Use of locating devices and signalling apparatus
First aid basics for survivors
Simulated drills in launching, recovery, and rescue scenarios

This course is delivered through a blend of:

Facilitator-led classroom sessions covering survival craft safety requirements, launch procedures, and regulatory standards.

Practical training on board survival craft and davit systems in controlled environments.

Scenario-based exercises simulating abandon ship, launching, and operating survival craft in emergency conditions.

Performance-based assessments to confirm competence in preparing, launching, and handling survival craft other than fast rescue boats.
This 4-day STCW course is designed for seafarers, offshore personnel, shipboard crew, and helideck teams working in marine, offshore, or resource sectors. It is essential for those who may need to operate survival craft or rescue boats during an emergency. The minimum age to undertake the course is 18, in line with AMSA requirements.

Learners must meet the required prerequisites to attend this course:

Evidence of completing Basic Safety Training (STCW Reg VI/1), and one of the following within the last 5 years:

Certificate of Safety Training (COST), or

Certificate of Safety Training Continued Competence (COST_CC)

For STCW endorsement, learners must also provide evidence of 6 months sea service on vessels carrying survival equipment suitable for use on SOLAS vessels.

Learners must have basic Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills to understand safety procedures and complete assessments. Learners must be able to access and navigate a digital device to log in and access the course materials. Support for leaners is available on request. More information is available on our website.

Prerequisites

Certificate of Safety Training

Government issued photo identification
Protective Clothing & Footwear – For courses with practical components, overalls/long pants and safety boots must be worn. If you don’t have your own, ERGT can provide these for you on the day.
Please bring swimwear and towel for in water activities.
Pre-requisites:

Note: If you do not hold the required sea service, you will be issued with an ERGT Certificate of Attendance

Health & Fitness:
A medical certificate is not required for this course; however, a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements.
