Course Overview

The Fast Rescue Craft Continued Competence will refresh and maintain learners skills in operating fast rescue craft (FRC) with this practical, hands-on course designed to meet continued competence requirements.

The 1-day Fast Rescue Craft Continued Competence course at ERGT Australia is for experienced seafarers who have previously completed Fast Rescue Craft (FRC) training and need to demonstrate ongoing capability in operating fast rescue boats. This refresher course focuses on the safe launch, handling, recovery, and rescue operations of FRCs in emergency situations.

This training is delivered through practical exercises in simulated marine conditions, helping learners build confidence and maintain readiness for emergency response at sea. It meets industry and regulatory requirements for continued competence in FRC operations.

This course is designed for personnel and seafarers working on a floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) and floating storage offloading (FSO) vessels, who need to maintain their skills in launching, operating and recovering a Fast Rescue Craft.

Certification:
On successful completion of the course, you will be issued with a certificate in accordance with AMSA requirements, for the following elements:
Continued Competence for Holders of Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats
The Fast Rescue Craft Continued Competence course includes:
Review of fast rescue craft equipment, systems, and safety requirements
Procedures for launching, operating, and recovering the craft
Boat handling skills and navigation in realistic sea conditions
Search, rescue, and casualty recovery techniques
Team coordination and communication during emergency response

This course is delivered through a blend of:

Facilitator-led classroom sessions to review AMSA requirements, vessel procedures, and emergency response responsibilities.

Practical training with fast rescue boats, including launch, recovery, and handling in realistic maritime conditions.

Scenario-based exercises simulating search and rescue tasks, casualty recovery, and emergency operations at sea.

Performance-based assessments to confirm continued competence in operating and managing fast rescue craft safely and effectively.
The Fast Rescue Craft – Continued Competence course is designed for seafarers, offshore personnel, and shipboard crew who already hold an AMSA Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (STCW Reg VI/2, Code A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-2) and need to demonstrate continued competence to maintain their certification.

This 1-day refresher course is intended for experienced personnel working in the Maritime, Offshore Oil and Gas, and Resource Sectors, where fast rescue craft are carried on vessels or facilities. It provides an opportunity to refresh and update essential skills in line with AMSA regulatory requirements.

This training is physically demanding, requiring learners to launch and recover craft, handle equipment, and operate in realistic maritime emergency scenarios.

Learners must have basic Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills to understand safety procedures and complete assessments. Learners must be able to access and navigate a digital device to log in and access the course materials. Support for leaners is available on request. More information is available on our website.

Taking charge of a fast rescue craft during and after launch
Responding to emergencies or malfunctions involving the craft, equipment, or crew
Locating and retrieving casualties
Recovering and securing the fast rescue craft after operations

Prerequisites

Fast Rescue Craft - STCW

Government issued photo identification
Protective Clothing & Footwear – For courses with practical components, overalls/long pants and safety boots must be worn. If you don’t have your own, ERGT can provide these for you on the day.
Bathers and towel are required for in water activities.
Pre-requisites:
Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Craft (STCW Reg VI/2 Code A-VI/2) within 5 years
Or
Certificate in Continued Competence for Holders of Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats – STCW Code Table A-VI/2-2 within 5 years

A medical certificate is not required for this course; however, a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements.
