Fast Rescue Craft Continued Competence

Training Standard Prerequisites

There are no training standard prerequisites required to be collected by ERGT Australia for this course. Entry eligibility is based on AMSA's requirements below.

AMSA Requirements:

Prior Fast Rescue Craft Certification:

To enrol in this course, learners must hold one of the following, with evidence verified by ERGT Australia before course commencement:

• Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Craft (STCW Reg VI/2 Code A-VI/2) within 5 years

Or

• Certificate in Continued Competence for Holders of Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats – STCW Code Table A-VI/2-2 within 5 years 

Learners whose AMSA FRC certification has expired should contact ERGT Australia to discuss if this course is suitable for you prior to enrolling.

ERGT Australia's Fast Rescue Craft Continued Competence course is delivered over 1-day at ERGT purpose built marine safety training centre. The course is practically intensive learners should expect to spend the majority of the day on the water, refreshing and demonstrating fast rescue craft skills through realistic scenario-based exercises. A classroom review session opens the day before transitioning to on-water practical activities.

Facilitators are experienced maritime safety practitioners who will brief learners thoroughly before each on-water exercise. Assessment is ongoing and performance-based throughout the day. Learners who do not demonstrate the required continued competence may need to repeat a component before their course completion certificate is issued.

Learner Support

ERGT Australia is committed to providing a training environment where every learner can engage fully and safely. The following support is available across three areas.

Physical Support

Learners with an injury, physical limitation, or health condition that may affect their ability to participate in on-water practical activities are encouraged to declare this at registration. ERGT Australia will work with you to identify reasonable adjustments where possible. Some practical tasks — including on-water boat handling and casualty retrieval have non-negotiable safety requirements that cannot be modified; where this is the case, ERGT Australia will advise you clearly before the course begins. No medical certificate is required, but a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness must be completed at registration.

Psychological Support

Learners who are concerned about on-water activities, capsize exercises, or casualty retrieval scenarios are encouraged to contact ERGT Australia before enrolment. Facilitators provide thorough pre-activity briefings before each on-water exercise and are experienced in supporting learners through the demands of fast rescue craft training. Learners may speak with their facilitator at any time if they are finding a particular activity challenging. No learner will be required to continue an activity that poses a genuine risk to their psychological safety.

Cognitive Support

This course focuses on the consolidation and demonstration of existing fast rescue craft skills across a single day. Learners with recent operational FRC experience will consolidate their performance more effectively than those who have not been actively using these skills. To support learners, ERGT Australia opens the day with a classroom review of FRC systems, procedures, and AMSA requirements before moving to on-water practical activities. Facilitators use consistent terminology and step-by-step briefings before each exercise, and scenario activities progress from individual skill refreshers toward integrated rescue operations. Post-exercise debriefs reinforce learning and address areas for improvement. Learners who need additional time with a particular skill are encouraged to speak with their facilitator.
