Certificate of Proficiency Continued Competence

On successful completion of the course, you will be issued with a certificate in accordance with AMSA requirements, for the following elements:

Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting – STCW Reg VI/1 and Code Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-2

Personal Survival Techniques – STCW Reg VI/1 and Code Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-1

Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats – STCW Code Table A-VI/2-1

Government issued photo identification

Protective Clothing & Footwear – For courses with practical components, overalls/long pants and safety boots must be worn. If you don’t have your own, ERGT can provide these for you on the day.

Bring swimwear and a towel for water-based drills.

Pre-requisites:

There are no training standard pre-requisites required to be collected by ERGT Australia. However to refresh your competency with AMSA you will be required to meet all of the below requirements when lodging a formal application with AMSA using the Seafarer form 419. 

AMSA issued Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) Rating

Qualifying sea service either 12 months in the last 5 years or 3 months in the last 6 months.

If you do not hold the required sea service, you will need to revalidate through an alternate process. This process differs depending on the type of Certificate of Continued Competency you hold. Please contact ERGT to confirm your individual requirements.

Refresher Documentation & Process

When lodging your Refresher via AMSA’s Seafarer Form 419, you must include your AMSA issued Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) Rating Certficate received upon completion of training along with documented evidence and sea service on company letter head.

​This  Certificate of Proficiency Continued Competence (CoP_CC) certification is valid for 5 years, aligning with STCW continued competence regulations. To maintain certification, you must successfully complete a refresher under the Certificate of Proficiency Continued Competence (COP_CC) standard before expiry, if not done before expiry, you may not be able to work on a vessel. 

Respiratory Standards:

Under respiratory standard AS/NZS 1715 Appendix B: Facial Seal of Respirators must be adhered to. You must be clean shaven to achieve an effective seal. If you’re unsure about this requirement, contact ERGT before your course.

Health & Fitness:

A medical certificate is not required for this course; however, a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements.

Free Parking at all ERGT facilities  

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Any additional PPE required for your course will be supplied by ERGT on the day.

Lunch for Full-Day Courses – Lunch is provided. Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you have any allergies or specific dietary requirements.

Showers & Change Facilities

Singlets, shorts, clothing displaying offensive slogans/images, open toed shoes, high heels

Seafarers who meet AMSA sea-service requirements:

3 months in 6 months, or

12 months in 5 years

Once you have received your CoST Certificate and EFA Certificate from ERGT, you will need to complete AMSA Form 419. Further details and the form itself can be found on the AMSA website.

After completing the form, print it and lodge your application at an AMSA-approved Australia Post outlet.

It is an AMSA requirement that applicants hold HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, completed within the last 3 years. This qualification will be credit-transferred to an Elementary First Aid (EFA) Certificate.

Note: You do not need to complete HLTAID011 before attending the COST course; however, the EFA Certificate must be provided when submitting your application to AMSA
