The 1-day Command the Operation of Survival Craft Twin Davit Skills Maintenance course at ERGT Australia is designed for personnel who are required to maintain their competency in survival craft operations. This course provides a structured refresher of skills and knowledge to ensure learners can safely command and operate twin davit-launched survival craft during an emergency.

Learners are expected to arrive with prior knowledge and experience in survival craft operations, as this is a skills maintenance program. Medical fitness is essential, as the course involves physically demanding activities, including working in marine environments, operating craft equipment, and responding under time-critical conditions.

On successful demonstration of all the required performance criteria you will be issued with a Certificate of Currency in:
Command the operation of survival craft
The Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft (TEMPSC) launching method used during this course was a twin davit and winch.
Roles and responsibilities in commanding survival craft
Survival craft launch and recovery systems
Emergency evacuation procedures and protocols
Communication, leadership, and teamwork in emergencies
Practical exercises with twin davit-launched survival craft
Scenario-based training to refresh critical decision-making skills

This course is delivered through a blend of:

Performance-based assessments to verify continued competence in operating survival craft and managing crew during launch and recovery operations.
The 1-day Command the Operation of Survival Craft Twin Davit – Skills Maintenance course at ERGT Australia is designed for learners in offshore and maritime industries who are already trained and experienced in survival craft operations and are required to maintain competency as part of their role.

This course is intended for workers in safety-critical roles who may be called upon to take command of survival craft in emergency evacuations. It is a refresher program, requiring learners to arrive with an existing level of skill and knowledge. It is recommended that you hold either:

PMAWHS312 Command the operation of survival craft - within 2 years

Or

AMSA_PSC Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats - STCW Reg VI/2 and Code Section A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-1 - within 5 years (not a refresher)

Learners must be physically capable of operating survival craft equipment, climbing, bending, lifting, and working in marine environments while wearing personal protective equipment.

Learners must be able to access and navigate a digital device to log in and access the course materials. Support for leaners is available on request. More information is available on our website.

Prerequisites

What to Bring:
Government issued photo identification
Protective Clothing & Footwear – For courses with practical components, overalls/long pants and safety boots must be worn. If you don’t have your own, ERGT can provide these for you on the day.
Health & Fitness:
A medical certificate is not required for this course; however, a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements..

What to expect

Directions to the Fremantle Training Annex area
(12 Rous Head Road, North Fremantle)
Follow the signs to Rottnest Ferry Terminal. Please be aware that this is a heavy truck traffic area and extra caution is to be taken when travelling to the centre.
Walking to the centre is not advised.
Unfortunately there is no public transport which takes you directly to the centre, the closest train station is North Fremantle Train Station which is approximately a 5 minute drive away. Please note that at times it is difficult to get a taxi out to the centre, therefore it is recommended that you organise a taxi in advance.
Free Parking at all ERGT facilities
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Any additional PPE required for your course will be supplied by ERGT on the day.
Lunch for Full-Day Courses – Lunch is provided. Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you have any allergies or specific dietary requirements.
