Course Overview

Gain AMSA-endorsed course for Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats learn to launch, operate, and manage fast rescue craft safely in real-life emergency scenarios. This hands-on course builds practical skills in launching, navigating, and managing rescue missions in challenging marine environments.

ERGT’s 3-day Fast Rescue Craft course is designed for people working in Offshore Oil and Gas, Maritime, and Emergency Response roles where there’s a need to respond quickly to man overboard incidents or marine emergencies.

This training results in you obtaining the reequipments for the STCW Reg VI/2, Table A-VI/2-2 standards endorsed by AMSA, giving you the practical capability to launch and operate fast rescue boats, recover casualties, and navigate in low visibility or rough sea conditions.

You’ll train on purpose-built vessels and simulated offshore environments to prepare for the real-world challenges of working on water when lives are on the line.

On successful completion of the course, you will be issued with a certificate in accordance with AMSA requirements, for the following elements:
Certificate of Proficiency in:
Fast Rescue Boats (STCW Reg VI/2 and Code Section A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-2)
Overview of fast rescue boat systems and safety checks
Hands-on launch and recovery methods
Boat handling in challenging sea conditions
Casualty location and retrieval techniques
Emergency communications and crew leadership

Training is delivered face-to-face through:

Instructor-led briefings and demonstrations

Practical on-water training using ERGT’s fast rescue craft

Team-based emergency scenarios and rescue simulations

Hands-on assessments to demonstrate operational competence
The 3-day Fast Rescue Craft course is designed for seafarers, offshore personnel, and shipboard crew who may be required to operate fast rescue craft in emergency situations. It is relevant for those working in the Maritime, Offshore Oil and Gas, and Resource Sectors where fast rescue boats are carried on board vessels of facilities.

The course is suitable for learners who already hold baseline maritime safety training and are looking to gain the AMSA-endorsed Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (STCW Reg VI/2 and Code Section A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-2).

Training includes physically demanding activities such as launching and recovering fast rescue craft, handling boats in challenging conditions, and performing rescue operations at sea. Learners must be physically fit and able to participate in all practical components of the course.
The following prerequisites are required to receive an STCW outcome:

AMSA Endorsed Certificate of Basic Safety Training (STCW Reg VI/1) within the last 5 years, e.g. COST or COST_CC, and

Proficiency in Survival Craft other than Fast Rescue Boats as per STCW Reg VI/2-1 within the last 5 years.

Learners must have basic Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills to understand safety procedures and complete assessments. Learners must be able to access and navigate a digital device to log in and access the course materials. Support for leaners is available on request. More information is available on our website.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Understand the construction, maintenance, repair and outfitting of fast rescue boats
Take charge of a fast rescue boat, as commonly fitted, during launch and recovery
Take charge of a fast rescue boat after launching
Operate a fast rescue boat engine

Prerequisites

Government issued photo identification
Protective Clothing & Footwear – For courses with practical components, overalls/long pants and safety boots must be worn. If you don’t have your own, ERGT can provide these for you on the day.
Bathers and towel are required for in water activities.
AMSA Endorsement Information:
Learners who are seeking AMSA endorsement are required to provide evidence to ERGT for verification prior to course commencement of the following pre-requisite:

AMSA Endorsed Certificate Basic Safety Training STCW Reg VI/1 within 5 years, eg: COST or COST_CC
and
Proficiency in Survival Craft and rescue boats other than Fast Rescue Boats as per STCW Reg. VI/2-1 (endorsed by AMSA)

Health & Fitness:
A medical certificate is not required for this course; however, a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements.

What to expect

Free Parking at all ERGT facilities
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Any additional PPE required for your course will be supplied by ERGT on the day.
Lunch for Full-Day Courses – Lunch is provided. Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you have any allergies or specific dietary requirements.
