Course Overview
Completing this course is one of the requirements for seafarers seeking an AMSA Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats. Upon successful completion, ERGT Australia will issue a course completion certificate showing the required STCW code. This certificate must be submitted to AMSA as part of your endorsement application. The Certificate of Proficiency is issued by AMSA, not ERGT Australia.

The Fast Rescue Craft STCW course gives seafarers the practical skills to safely launch, operate, recover, and manage fast rescue craft during man overboard incidents and marine emergencies. It covers the construction, maintenance, and outfitting of fast rescue boats; launching and recovery methods; boat handling in challenging sea conditions; casualty location and retrieval; and emergency communications and crew leadership the specialist maritime emergency response capability required of seafarers who may be called upon to operate fast rescue craft aboard vessels.
Completing this course meets the training requirements for the AMSA Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (STCW Reg VI/2 and Code Section A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-2). This is a 3-day, practically intensive course delivered at ERGT Australia's specialist marine training facilities in Jandakot and Fremantle, combining classroom instruction with extensive on-water exercises using purpose-built fast rescue craft.

Prior Skills & Knowledge
AMSA Endorsement Requirements:
To be eligible to receive a Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats from AMSA, learners must hold the following AMSA-endorsed certifications before attending this course. Evidence of both prerequisites must be verified by ERGT Australia before course commencement:
1.Basic Safety Training STCW Reg VI/1 within the last 5 years:

Learners who do not hold the prerequisites will not be eligible for the AMSA Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats.

What to expect
ERGT Australia's Fast Rescue Craft STCW course is delivered over 3-days at both our Jandakot and Fremantle purpose-built marine safety training centers The course is practically intensive learners should expect to spend significant portions of each day on the water, operating fast rescue craft in realistic emergency scenarios. Classroom sessions introduce procedures and regulatory requirements, before transitioning to on-water practical training using ERGT Australia's purpose-built fast rescue craft.
Exercises build progressively from equipment familiarisation and basic boat handling to fully integrated rescue scenarios involving search patterns, casualty retrieval, and crew coordination under pressure. Facilitators are experienced maritime safety practitioners who will brief learners thoroughly before each practical activity and provide real-time feedback throughout on-water exercises.
Assessment is performance-based across both knowledge and practical components over the three days. Learners who do not demonstrate the required competence may need to repeat a component before their course completion certificate is issued.

ERGT Australia is committed to providing a training environment where every learner can engage fully and safely. The following support is available across three areas.
Physical Support
Learners with an injury, physical limitation, or health condition that may affect their ability to participate in on-water practical activities are encouraged to declare this at registration. ERGT Australia will work with you to identify reasonable adjustments where possible. Some practical tasks including on-water boat handling and casualty retrieval have non-negotiable safety requirements that cannot be modified; where this is the case, ERGT Australia will advise you clearly before the course begins. No medical certificate is required, but a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness must be completed at registration.
Psychological Support
Learners who are concerned about on-water activities, open-water conditions, or casualty retrieval scenarios are encouraged to contact ERGT Australia before enrolment. Facilitators provide thorough pre-activity briefings before each on-water exercise and are experienced in supporting learners through the demands of fast rescue craft training. Learners may speak with their facilitator at any time if they are finding a particular activity challenging. No learner will be required to continue an activity that poses a genuine risk to their psychological safety.
Cognitive Support
This course covers a range of interconnected fast rescue craft skills systems knowledge, launch and recovery procedures, navigation, search patterns, and casualty retrieval that must be applied reliably under the pressures of realistic rescue scenarios. To support learners in building this capability across three days, ERGT Australia structures content progressively: systems and regulatory knowledge first, followed by basic boat handling before moving to integrated rescue scenarios. Facilitators use consistent terminology and step-by-step demonstration before each practical activity, and scenario exercises build from individual skill tasks toward fully coordinated rescue operations. Post-exercise debriefs reinforce learning and address areas for improvement. Learners who need additional time with a particular skill or procedure are encouraged to speak with their facilitator.
