Course Overview

In this Fast Rescue Craft course, learners will learn to launch, operate, and manage fast rescue craft safely in real-life emergency scenarios. This hands-on course builds practical skills in launching, navigating, and managing rescue missions in challenging marine environments.

ERGT’s 3-day Fast Rescue Craft course is designed for people working in Offshore Oil and Gas, Maritime, and Emergency Response roles where there’s a need to respond quickly to man overboard incidents or marine emergencies.

This training results in the nationally recognised unit of competancy MARF034 Carry out fast rescue craft operations, giving you the practical capability to launch and operate fast rescue boats, recover casualties, and navigate in low visibility or rough sea conditions.

You’ll train on purpose-built vessels and simulated offshore environments to prepare for the real-world challenges of working on water when lives are on the line.

Upon successful completion learners will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in:
MARF034 Carry out fast rescue craft operations
Launch and retrieval systems for fast rescue boats
Boat handling in rough seas and restricted visibility
Man overboard scenarios and casualty recovery
Onboard safety checks, briefings, and emergency procedures
Navigation, radio comms, and rescue team coordination
Equipment inspection, maintenance, and storage

Training is delivered face-to-face through:

Instructor-led briefings and demonstrations

Practical on-water training using ERGT’s fast rescue craft

Team-based emergency scenarios and rescue simulations

Hands-on assessments to demonstrate operational competence
The 3-day Fast Rescue Craft course is designed for seafarers, offshore personnel, and shipboard crew who may be required to operate a fast rescue craft during emergency situations. It is relevant for people working in the Maritime, Offshore Oil and Gas, and Resource Sectors where fast rescue craft are carried on board vessels or facilities.

This course supports learners to develop the practical skills and knowledge needed to safely carry out fast rescue craft operations.

No formal prerequisites are required however, it is recommended that this course is best suited to learners who already hold baseline maritime safety training, including having previously completed Sea Survival Training e.g: an OPITO BOSIET or AMSA Personal Survival Techniques STCW Reg VI/1 and Code Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-1 or equivalent. Learners should also have experience working in vessel and offshore environments.

Training includes physically demanding activities such as launching and recovering fast rescue craft, handling boats in challenging conditions, and performing search and rescue tasks. Learners must be physically fit and able to fully participate in all practical components.

Learners must have basic Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills to understand safety procedures and complete assessments. Learners must be able to access and navigate a digital device to log in and access the course materials. Support for leaners is available on request. More information is available on our website.

Prerequisites

Government issued photo identification
Protective Clothing & Footwear – For courses with practical components, overalls/long pants and safety boots must be worn. If you don’t have your own, ERGT can provide these for you on the day.
Please bring swimwear and towel for in water activities.
Unique Student Identifier (USI):
You are enrolling in a Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) course.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be provided and verified for NRT. Please refer to http://www.usi.gov.au to create a USI. It is strongly recommended that you grant ERGT permission to access your USI transcript to assist with verification.
ERGT is prohibited by law to issue a Statement of Attainment without a verified USI.
A USI must be provided and verified within 30 days of course completion otherwise an alternative non NRT certificate will be issued.
Training Pre-requisites:
There are no pre-requisites from the training standard for this course.
Health & Fitness:
A medical certificate is not required for this course; however, a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements.

What to expect

Free Parking at all ERGT facilities
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Any additional PPE required for your course will be supplied by ERGT on the day.
