ERGT Australia’s OPITO Escape Chute Training (5770) teaches offshore learners how to safely descend an escape chute in an emergency. This OPITO-approved course builds confidence and meets international safety requirements.
ERGT Australia’s OPITO Escape Chute Training (5770) is a short, practical course designed to give offshore personnel the skills and confidence to safely descend an escape chute during an emergency evacuation. Escape chutes are a important evacuation method used on offshore facilities and vessels worldwide, and knowing how to use them correctly can save lives.
This course runs for 2 hours and meets the requirements of the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO).
There are no academic prerequisites or medical requirements to attend; however, learners should be physically capable of climbing to platform height and descending the chute unaided.

Learning Objectives
- The expected learning outcomes from the OPITO Escape Chute training are the ability to successfully demonstrate the following:
- Entering the escape chute safely using the correct body posture
- Completing a controlled descent through the escape chute
- Exiting the escape chute correctly onto a collection raft/platform
- On completion of the escape chute descent, clearing the egress point at the base of the escape chute by moving out of the way of descending personnel
